28-Day Board and Train Program

When it comes to the highest quality training for your pup, a board and train is the best option as the training is done by professionals. We do all the work and bring back a dog that is relaxed, focused, and ready to take on the world with its new skills. If you’re at your wit’s end and need help ASAP, this option is perfect for you.

Good Dogz KC offers a lifetime commitment to you and your dog's training after attending our Board + Train programs. This means that, as long as you are committed to working with your dog for as little as 5 minutes a day each week and holding them accountable to the new skills they learned with us, we will be committed to helping you feel confident handling your dogs after they return home from their Board + Train as well as ensuring you have adequate problem-solving skills for whatever might come your way. We believe human training is just as important as dog training.

Follow-Up Sessions

For our 28-Day Board and Train program, we visit your home after 14 days to give you a test drive at leash handling skills so you can see how well your dog is doing on a leash. After your dog returns home, we provide a comprehensive educational go-home session. We show you how to handle your dog on the leash and go through the commands they learned with us. We return a week after the first go-home appointment to revisit any information that wasn’t retained from the first appointment and review your handling skills to make sure you and your dog are successful. We teach you how to use your e-collar remote in a humane and effective way. It’s important to learn leash-handling skills before we teach you how to use the e-collar remote. We use the e-collar to start and stop behaviors at the lowest detectable setting.

We recommend structural and daily routine adjustments to make your dog’s transition smoother as well as troubleshoot any miscommunication happening between you and your pet. Our goal is to ensure you are maintaining new behaviors and learning how to fit accountability and stimulation into your everyday life. For some, this might look like asking your dog to sit before allowing them to exit the house instead of allowing them to bolt out of the house in order to maintain their impulse control. Once we all have determined you are set, our visits will become less frequent (once a month as needed and determined by the trainer).

All the while, you will have access to us in between go-home sessions virtually to ask questions as well as to provide feedback. We are dedicated to the success of you and your dog!

How It Works

Your dog is immersed in a structured and routine lifestyle with us in our home where they receive ample one-on-one time with professional trainers as well as socialization with children and well-trained dogs of our own. For this program, our goal is to ensure your dog understands how to follow through with a list of commands while wearing an e-collar. This option gives you and your dog the most freedom. We work for the first 2 weeks with on-leash obedience to ensure your dog understands how to follow through with a list of commands using minimal leash pressure (this means gentle tugging on the slip-lead). In the third week, we layer the remote collar at the lowest detectable stimulation and pair the sensation with a physical leash so they understand the two sensations are the same and interchangeable. You can expect your dog to follow through with your commands while wearing an e-collar. In the final week of your dog’s board and train, we do all the fun stuff you dreamt of doing with your dog out in public. We take them to shops, parks, cafes, etc. so they understand that the commands they learned at school, also apply in the presence of many distractions and new smells. While on our visits, we take note of what triggers a dog’s aggression, anxiety, and overall arousal so we can teach you how to refocus your dog in high-stress situations.

During the 28-Day Board and Train program, we also work through modifying behaviors like anxiety and aggression. Please note that when it comes to aggression, we can work with dogs by supporting them and making them more confident, learning about what triggers them, giving them an outlet to meet their primal needs, and then teaching this advocacy to the dog owner. It’s an unrealistic expectation to completely eliminate your dog’s desire to bite. Through obedience training, we will counter-condition a dog’s instinctive response to solve a problem with aggression by redirecting their focus and giving them a job to do. All dogs can become aggressive and any dog can bite. With that being said, your dog still deserves your support and advocacy to keep them and anyone you interact with safe, balanced, and happy. You can still have a normal life with your dog and we can help.

Our Training Philosophy

Our balanced training methods and fun-focused philosophy are always dog-centered. We hone in on what is causing a dog's anxiety and work with them to self-regulate their emotions as well as give them an outlet to express their primal instincts. We love working with dogs at the board and train level because we get to spend so much one on one time with them learning about what triggers them, excites them, and how to motivate them to be obedient in the home and in the real world.

We’re skilled at training humans too! We won’t walk away from a session unless we’re confident that you’re confident! We understand that learning a new skill can be overwhelming. We take pride in how we calmly educate dog owners and lead them to success through fun interactions and clear communication! We believe human training is just as important as dog training.
